This question, perhaps more than any other is a mystery for most Christians. We're told by Jesus that those who love Him will demonstrate this love by an obedient life. We're wired as believers with a longing to seek the approval of our Heavenly Father. Because of this, figuring out God's will is of utmost importance. By God's grace, He has chosen to answer this question very clearly for us in the Bible.

The Bible says that we can be filled with the knowledge of His will (Colossians 1:9), and that we are “not to be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is” (Ephesians 5:17). So the answer to this question is YES! We can know the will of God; in fact we are commanded to do so! The will of God is not meant to be a secret we must uncover, but rather something we must understand. God wants us to understand His will and live with the hope and joy that He provides with this clarity.

    Saved
God’s will is that sinners are saved: 1 Tim. 2:3-4, 2 Pet. 3:9

    Spirit-filled
God’s will is that Christians are spirit-filled: Eph. 5:18

    Sanctified
God’s will is that Christians are becoming more like Jesus: 1 Thes. 4:3-7

    Submissive
God’s will is that Christians are submissive: Romans 13:1-2, Eph. 5:21

    Suffering
God’s will is that Christians suffer for their faith: Phil. 1:29, 2 Tim. 3:12

    Service
God’s will is that Christians are service oriented: Eph. 2:10, Matt. 20:26-28

    Saying Thanks
God's will is that Christians are thankful: 1 Thes. 5:16-18

As you make decisions, and this is true in your life then according to God's word you may do whatever you want. This may sound pretty radical, but its true. You can do what you want because your desires are the very desires of God.

Pslam 37:4 "Delight yourself in the Lord; and He will give you the desires of your heart."

Knowing God's will can be summed up by abiding in Christ (John 15) and dwelling richly on the words of Jesus (Colossians 3:16-18). God's will is His word; therefore if you're conforming to God's will in the ways noted above, He will place in your heart desires that reflect His will. God's will is that we are the right kind of people who are living in the shining light of His word. So do what you want to do! As we are "being" the right people, we'll "do" the right things!
