Home - What is Magic City?
Miami is nicknamed the "Magic City" because of its remarkable growth in size over a relatively short period of time. The United Nations estimated that in the 2007 census, Miami had become the 4th largest urbanized area in the United States and the largest metropolitan area in the southeastern United States. At only 35.68 square miles of land area, Miami is also the smallest land area of any major city in the USA.
In 2008, Miami was recognized as "America's Cleanest City", has the largest Spanish-speaking population in the Western Hemisphere outside of Latin America, was ranked the 3rd richest city in the USA, and boasts the 3rd greatest city skyline as a result of its shear size.
Miami has long been recognized as a global city for its importance in finance, commerce, media, entertainment, arts, and international trade. Miami is also home to the largest concentration of international banks in the USA, and is the cruise ship capital of the world.
